3 Good Reasons to Take the Train

It’s decided—this year, you’re going skiing in Les Arcs! The only question is: how? But between “How many suitcases can we fit in the car?”, “Did you bring the snow chains?”, and “Do we need to reserve a parking spot?”, planning the trip quickly turns into a mission impossible.

So why not take the train this time? Follow our guide—we’ll take you there!

1. A Simpler Journey

More Fun

Whether you’re coming for a birthday, a bachelor/bachelorette party, or other celebrations—in short, the schedule is anything but relaxing! Skiing, après-ski, dining, repeat! So why not enjoy every moment to the fullest without having to designate a driver for the ride home? That way, you can all relax comfortably on the train, both on the way there and back!

Less hassle

More used to the city ring road than snowy roads… You’re groaning at the thought of reviewing those tutorials on “how to put on snow chains” and “how to stay calm when your friend wants to take control of the playlist in YOUR car”… Save yourself the trouble and settle in comfortably on board your train!

Fewer conflicts

No one wants to leave at the same time or on the same day? With the train, there’s no need to delay your plans for that friend who wants to leave the next morning. They’ll catch up with you on the next train!

More comfort

"So, we can take my parents’ car, but it’ll be cramped…": Don’t have a car or a vehicle big enough? Opt for the train. Because yes, your childhood friend will always bring too much luggage, and no, a 7-hour drive with three of you in the backseat isn’t ideal…

2. With affordable options

OUIGO, SNCF Voyageurs’ low-cost service, makes train travel accessible to everyone, with over 60 destinations across France. Whether on high-speed trains or conventional lines, OUIGO offers à la carte options to suit every need.

As it does every year during the winter season, from December 19th, 2026, to March 28th, 2027, OUIGO is offering its seasonal route connecting Paris to Bourg Saint Maurice by TGV starting at €19 per adult and €8 per child. This direct route takes you to the heart of the mountains in about 5 hours and 45 minutes, with convenient stops in Grenoble, Albertville, Moûtiers, and Aime-la-Plagne.

An affordable, simple, and comfortable trip… That’s the OUIGO experience!

3. For a smaller carbon footprint

Let’s face it, we all have that eco-conscious friend who pulls out their carbon calculator the moment we start talking about vacations. Good news: by traveling to Les Arcs by train, you drastically reduce your vacation’s carbon footprint. Transportation accounts for over 50% of the emissions from a ski trip, so you might as well choose the most responsible option.

And it’s simple: travel directly to Bourg Saint Maurice from Paris, Lyon, or other major European cities, and take the funicular, which will drop you off at Arc 1600 in just 7 minutes. From there, free shuttles will take you to the other resorts: Arc 1800, 1950, or 2000.

Bonus: the funicular is free for those who show their train ticket. Nice, isn’t it?
