What to Do in Les Arcs in September?
In September, the mountains reveal a whole new side! Take advantage of the last few weekends of summer to get some fresh air, get active, and enjoy the scenery of Les Arcs before fall arrives. Dust off your bikes and hiking boots, take some time to slow down, and treat yourself to a getaway in the great outdoors near Bourg-Saint-Maurice–Les Arcs.
Enjoy Le Golf des Arcs Through September 27
With its 9- and 18-hole courses, Golf des Arcs lets you extend the season with the mountain peaks as your backdrop. It remains open daily through September 27: a great opportunity to enjoy a few more rounds at high altitude.
Keep Riding
In September, cycling takes center stage! Whether you’re into mountain biking, e-bikes, road biking, or touring, take advantage of the valley’s many routes—from bike paths to the iconic mountain passes of the Haute Tarentaise.
For mountain biking, the Cachette chairlift at Arc 1600 remains open on weekends through September 13, providing access to five trails to extend the season a little longer.
Want to go a little further? The Fario, an e-bike route spanning nearly 40 km, connects Bourg-Saint-Maurice to Tignes, alternating between greenways, trails, and scenic ridgelines—a wonderful way to explore the Haute Tarentaise by bike.
Enjoy the mountains at your own pace
Looking for a more leisurely outing? Head to the greenway, which runs along the Isère River for 24 km between Aime and Villaroger, passing through Bourg-Saint-Maurice and Séez.
Separated from the road and with minimal elevation gain, it’s accessible to pedestrians, cyclists, inline skaters, strollers, and scooters. Along the way, enjoy the Gothard lake, the Parc des Marais, and various picnic areas.
Explore the Hiking Trails
September is the perfect time to lace up your hiking boots and set out to explore the more than 200 km of trails in Les Arcs’ summer area.
Whether it’s a family stroll or a more challenging hike, everyone can enjoy the mountains at their own pace, with milder temperatures, quieter trails, and the first hints of fall colors.
Roule Ma Boule, through September 6
At the top of the Cachette chairlift, discover Roule Ma Boule, a fun activity for the whole family. Young and old alike will have fun rolling balls down various wooden modules, between the Cachette chairlift’s top station and the forest entrance.
Take a stroll through Parc des Marais
Just a stone’s throw from the center of Bourg-Saint-Maurice, Parc des Marais is the perfect place to get some fresh air, get active, or simply take a break surrounded by nature. With a skatepark and pump track for riders, a 9-hole disc golf course, a fitness trail, and picnic areas, there’s something for everyone.
It’s also a wonderful place to explore nature: enjoy the trails and the “Le Réveil des Marais” interpretive trail, stop by the water, and keep an eye out for wildlife—especially the birds that find refuge in this important wetland area of the Haute Tarentaise.
Take to the Skies in a Paraglider
In September, take to the skies and discover Bourg-Saint-Maurice–Les Arcs from above. Paragliding offers a unique viewpoint of the valley and the surrounding peaks, for an experience that combines thrills and wide-open spaces.
Discover the Secrets of Beaufort
Make the most of your visit to Bourg-Saint-Maurice by stopping by the Haute Tarentaise Dairy Cooperative, located in the heart of the Beaufort AOP’s birthplace.
A free 300-square-meter museum space offers a fun way to explore the behind-the-scenes production of this iconic valley cheese through videos, testimonials, and interactive exhibits.
And to round out your visit, stop by the shop to pick up Beaufort cheese, butter, cream, and other local specialties.
How to get around during L’Ultime?
Even after the peak season, there are several routes available to reach the various sites in Les Arcs and explore the Vallée des Glaciers.
August 30–September 13
🚞 Bourg-Saint-Maurice Funicular ↔ Arc 1600
Take advantage of free rides on the funicular during the last weekends of the season. It will run on September 5 and 6, as well as September 12 and 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., every 30 minutes.
🚌 UCPA – Arc 1600 – Arc 1800
Shuttle A shuttle also runs between the UCPA, Arc 1600, and Arc 1800 on weekends.
🚵 Cachette Chairlift – Arc 1600
The Cachette chairlift remains open on weekends through September 13, providing access to 5 slopes.
🚠 Vallandry
Gondola The Vallandry gondola remains open from Monday, August 31, through Saturday, September 5, inclusive, so you can continue to enjoy the ski area and take in the views from above.
The Mountain Bike & Pedestrian Day Pass is available for a flat rate of €14 at sales locations in Bourg-Saint-Maurice as well as at the ticket machine located at the funicular’s arrival station in Arc 1600.
Near Les Chapieux
🚌 Bourg Saint Maurice ↔ Les Chapieux ↔ Ville des Glaciers
Shuttles to Les Chapieux and Ville des Glaciers run through September 13, making it easy to reach the Vallée des Glaciers.
The Les Chapieux Tourist Office and the campground will remain open through September 27.
Stores and Services: What's Still Open
For groceries and everyday needs, head to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, where many stores remain open: Super U, Biomonde, Picard, Vival, as well as the various shops in the town center.
Want to pick up some local products? Stop by the Coopérative Laitière de Haute Tarentaise or Une Montagne de Producteurs—two great spots to discover the flavors of the valley.
Le Woodstock will also be open on the weekends of September 5–6 and September 12–13.
Arc 1600
A few places remain open during the week:
- Labuche: open Monday through Friday, for lunch only, starting August 31. Closed on weekends.
- Le Bistrot de Dodo: open on weekdays for lunch and dinner until 9 p.m., through September 13.
Arc 1800
For dining and gourmet breaks:
- L’Entrepôt: open for lunch and dinner through September 17.
- Arcus Coffee remains open all week during the day, offering a place to take a break in the resort year-round.
Please note: Temporary closure of the Water Sports Center
Although usually open during this period, the Bourg Saint Maurice Water Sports Center will be closed from August 30 through September 13 for its annual maintenance.
It will reopen on September 14.
