Description
All aboard!
After a summer spent in the mountains, it’s time to head back down to the valley. And here, there’s no way you’ll go unnoticed.
Tarine and Abondance cows, goats, sheep, horses… Starting at 10:30 a.m., the herds take over the streets of Bourg-Saint-Maurice for the grand La Démontagnée parade.
Alongside them are floats decorated with themes of agriculture and Alpine traditions, as well as several musical groups accompanying the procession: L'Harmony, Cors des Alpes, Cocktails des Montagnes, and Forte Banda.
A morning punctuated by the sound of bells, celebrating the return of the herds after their season in the alpine pastures.
Local Flavors Take Center Stage
No need to wait for the first herd to pass by to start the festivities.
Starting at 10 a.m., head to the bus station parking lot to explore the village of exhibitors and meet producers and artisans. Gourmet products, handmade crafts, and local expertise: a great opportunity to fill your basket… and work up an appetite.
At La Démontagnée, traditions are also savored at the table. A large, convivial meal is offered on-site for €20, featuring a menu that embodies the hearty flavors of mountain cuisine: terrine, beef bourguignon, pasta, cheese, créchenne, and coffee.
It’s the perfect way to recharge before continuing the day.
Who will be the big winner?
The GEDA of Haute Tarentaise and the GIDA of Moûtiers Bozel are organizing two contests that celebrate the cheeses of our mountains:
- the traditional winter Beaufort, a staple of Savoyard cuisine
- goat cheeses, including tommes and lactic-fermented varieties
You don’t need to be an expert to share your opinion.
After an initial tasting reserved for the professional jury, the contest opens to the general public from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Taste, compare, and vote for your favorite cheese.
And by participating, you’ll be entered into a drawing for a chance to win prizes!
Results at 12:30 p.m. in the train station parking lot.
The party continues!
The herds have returned, the cheeses have found their champions… but the day isn’t over yet.
Starting at 8:30 p.m., head to the middle school gym for the traditional Bal de la Démontagnée, organized by the Young Farmers.
One last chance to get together and keep the party going!
