Description

This year, Les Arcs is thinking big (and especially high)! After 10 editions of Winter Festislack, it’s time for a brand-new event: the Highline Freestyle World Cup is coming to Les Arcs for the very first time! And for this grand debut, Les Arcs is kicking off the 2027 world tour—and they’re quite proud of it!

From April 14 to 17, 2027, 24 athletes will defy the laws of gravity and compete on slings suspended above the Place Olympique in Arc 2000. On the agenda: flips, spins, tricks, and a few nerve-wracking moments for those watching from below!

What exactly is freestyle highlining?

Imagine a strap just 2.5 cm wide, stretched 25 meters high. Now imagine someone standing on it. At this point, you’re probably thinking it takes some serious balance just to stay upright.

Well, freestyle highline athletes decided that wasn’t challenging enough and decided to throw in some acrobatics.

The idea? Use the strap’s elasticity to bounce, launch yourself into the air, and string together tricks: flips, spins, twists…

A mix of balance, acrobatics, and a healthy dose of daring. And believe us, even with your feet firmly planted in the snow, you might still feel dizzy.

A World Cup, battles, and a spectacular show!

Here, there’s no performing tricks on your own: athletes go head-to-head in battles!

Two athletes, two parallel straps, and one goal: to impress the judges with the best tricks.

Just like in a dance battle, competitors trade tricks one after another, showcasing technical skill, creativity, and mastery. And with four lines stretching about 70 meters above the Place Olympique, needless to say, the show won’t go unnoticed!

Twenty-four athletes—12 women and 12 men—will compete for the title. This competition prioritizes gender equality, with an equal number of spots for women and men and identical prize money for both.

Did you know?

Highline battles have a little Savoyard flair!

That’s right—this competition format was born right here in Les Arcs!

It was in 2022, at the Deux Têtes site, that the Slack’icîmes association created this battle format. Since then, the concept has come a long way and has established itself in international competitions, all the way up to the World Championships.

So naturally, seeing a World Cup stop take place in Les Arcs today has a very special meaning for us.

On the schedule

Three days of eye-popping action:

Wednesday, April 14 – Qualifying Round

The athletes enter the competition, divided into groups of four. First tricks, first battles, and first rankings… The competition is on!

Thursday, April 15 – The pressure mounts

The battles continue with the semifinals and third-place matches across the various brackets. The athletes pull out their best moves to make a difference.

Friday, April 16 – The Grand Final

It’s the moment everyone’s been waiting for! The top athletes face off in the final battles leading up to the grand final, which will determine the winners of this World Cup stage.

Note: Saturday, April 17, is set aside as a rain date in case of bad weather.

Are you coming for the World Cup?

Why not take the opportunity to hit the slopes while you’re here? In April, the season is far from over in Les Arcs! Snow-covered slopes, longer days, sunshine, and plenty of great ways to enjoy spring skiing.

Why not take a few runs down the slopes between highline battles?
