Description
At 9:50 a.m. - Baudin Bridge (Peisey-Nancroix) - Tour duration: 2 hours 30 minutes
This walking tour offers a chance to explore the archaeological site. In this magnificent natural setting, you can still see the remains of industrial facilities dedicated to the mechanical and metallurgical processing of ore: ore washing plants, a smelter, technological exhibits, and a scale model.
In addition to the site’s history, the guided tour provides insight into the technologies used—from the miners breaking up the rock to the production of lead and silver ingots. A visit to an old mine tunnel offers a glimpse into the atmosphere of the era.
The Palais de la Mine housed the prestigious École Française des Mines during the First Empire. Seventy engineers were trained there between 1802 and 1814. The history and operations of this majestic school are recounted here.
