Make taking the train a habit when traveling to Les Arcs

With an international train station located right in Bourg-Saint-Maurice, at the foot of the resorts, Les Arcs has a rare advantage that makes it easy to reach the mountains by train.

From France as well as from several major European cities, it’s possible to reach Bourg-Saint-Maurice by train, notably from Paris, Lille, Lyon, London, or Brussels. And connections continue to expand: for the 2026–2027 winter season, the Travelski Night Express will also offer overnight travel from Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerp, and Brussels to the foot of Les Arcs.

This is an alternative that our visitors are already embracing: in winter, 25% of vacationers come to Les Arcs by train.

The reduction in emissions is far from negligible: for a trip from Paris to Les Arcs, the train emits approximately 2.4 kg of CO₂ per passenger, compared to 44 kg by gasoline-powered car. Encouraging rail travel is therefore one of the key ways to reduce the environmental footprint of a vacation.

The Funicular: A Pioneer in Carbon-Free Transportation

In Les Arcs, low-carbon transportation is nothing new. Since the 1990s, the funicular has provided a direct connection between the Bourg-Saint-Maurice train station and Arc 1600, allowing travelers to go from the valley to the mountains without driving.

Fully electric, it climbs 810 meters in elevation in just 7 minutes, covering a distance of 2.8 km. It’s a widely adopted solution: 980,000 rides were recorded in 2025, a 63% increase from 2019.

More than just a mode of transportation, the funicular is now an essential part of our mobility model: arrive by train in Bourg-Saint-Maurice, then reach Les Arcs in just a few minutes, without a car.

A destination designed for a different way of getting around

This commitment continues once you arrive. The various sites in Les Arcs are largely designed for walking, so you can easily enjoy the shops, services, and activities without using a car.

Free shuttle buses between sites also make it easy to travel from one site to another and offer a real alternative to driving during your stay.

The goal is simple: to allow everyone to fully enjoy the destination while minimizing the use of private cars as much as possible.
