Vanoise Express cable car: New cables due in early June

Press Communiqué : 24/04/2008

The Vanoise Express cable car, which links up the Paradiski area (France), will be getting its new cables in early June. SELALP, the cable car operator, confirmed the order with the manufacturer Pomagalski on 14 April.

Discussions centering on the definition of replacement cables started when the surveyors first began assessing the damage and a procurement order was issued in January. Manufacture of the new cables started on 15 April and they should be delivered at the beginning of June. In the meantime the cable cars are being kept in perfect trim by specialist technicians. The new cables will be installed at the same time as the previous ones are removed, taking account of the surveyors’ initial recommendations. Work is expected to last four months, with completion in September. The autumn months will be given over to tests prior to the resumption of normal operation.

Everything is currently on schedule for the cable car to reopen on 20 December 2008. A special website has been set up enabling you to keep up with the work and get the latest news. Turn your browser to http://vanoiseexpress.blogspot.com

Press Communiqué : 21/01/2008

The Vanoise Express cable-car, will open again next December 20, for the beginning of the 2008-2009 winterseason.

Since some fibres on the cable coating were found to have broken during a routine check on the 22nf of November, leading to the suspension of the cable-car’s operation for the winter, independent companies were missioned to run further investigations. These complementary analysis should be finished by February 2008.

The cables of the Vanoise will be changed.

The new cabkles order was initiated by the constructor

The Vanoise Express cable car, which connects the Arcs/Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne ranges, will not be in service this winter. The decision follows discussions between the operator and the local authorities, which have ordered suspension of the cable car’s operations. Problems have been detected on the outer coating of certain cables, which will be examined more closely during the winter. Work will start in the spring.

As the season opens the Arcs/Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne ski areas have exceptional snow cover and almost all the runs, covering 425 kilometres, are open.

True to their tradition of hospitality, all the staff in the Paradiski resorts are ready to welcome visitors in the best possible conditions.
